TOKYO 4-3-4-506
These photographs were taken at a council flat in the suburb of Tokyo, Japan. I lived in this flat permanently until the age of ten. I then left Japan to live in Britain, and my parents soon divorced. The flat eventually became uninhabited, and many years later, I had a chance to revisit this abandoned and scantily furnished flat, where I began to stage self-portraits. Throughout the photographs, this deserted flat became my theatrical space, where I would act out and direct my own memory.
