Chino Otsuka is a photographer, educator, and writer.
Born in Japan and moving to the UK as a teenager to attend Summerhill School, she grew up as a ‘third culture kid’ — an experience that continues to shape her life and work. Drawing on both private and public archives, her work explores themes of home, identity, memory, and belonging. Working across video, writing, and both digital and analogue photography, her practice-based research has led to an artist residency at the Nikkei National Museum in Canada, and she was awarded a creative research fellowship at the British Library in the UK.
Internationally acclaimed work, Imagine Finding Me, has become the most exhibited work having been shown in over 18 countries. Her work is written in many publications and academic books, such as being included in a series of text books for Norwegian High School.
Her work can be found in numerous international museums, such as LACMA, US; Tokyo Photographic Art Museum; Huis Marseille Museum, Amsterdam; Science Museum Collection, UK; Wilson Centre of Photography and Smithsonian Institution. She has also published four books in Japan as a writer.
